Marianne Van Meter
Marianne Van Meter, M.B.A., Managing Director, founded Legacy Capital in 1994, and is actively involved in providing financial advisory services to corporate clients in various industries and in representing buyers and sellers. Prior to founding Legacy, Marianne was Vice President with A.G. Edwards & Sons, Inc. from 1986 through 1993. Marianne developed and executed numerous mergers, acquisitions and corporate underwritings, and developed and managed the firm’s practice in hostile takeover prevention and defense. In 1988, she established A.G. Edwards’ New Orleans Corporate Finance office where she continued to execute selected merger and acquisition assignments nationwide while developing business in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. From 1984 until 1986, Marianne was an Associate in mergers and acquisitions with Morgan Stanley & Co., Incorporated in New York, New York. She is a Registered Representative and a Registered Principal with FINRA and a Candidate Member of the American Society of Appraisers. Ms. Van Meter has presented lectures on the buying and selling of closely-held businesses on behalf of Millsaps College and the Cambridge Institute.
Marianne graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Iowa in 1981, earning a B.S. with Honors in Economics. She received Mortar Board, Omicron Delta Kappa and Omicron Delta Epsilon honors. She earned her M.B.A. from the Colgate Darden Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Virginia in 1984.
Charles D. (“Chip”) Porter, J.D., Managing Director, has been co-owner of Legacy Capital since 1998 where he has represented numerous clients in various industries in successful mergers and acquisitions. Prior to joining Legacy, Chip was a Partner with the law firm of Phelps Dunbar, LLP, one of the largest firms in the Southeast, where his practice focused on business transactions, mergers and acquisitions. While at Phelps Dunbar, he served on numerous transactions as a lead attorney on behalf of clients of Legacy Capital. Chip was with Phelps Dunbar for eleven years, was Partner for five years, and was a member of the firm’s management committee. From 1979 to 1981, he worked for Ernst & Whinney in Phoenix, Arizona and was a licensed C.P.A. He is a Registered Representative and a Registered Principal with FINRA. Chip has presented several lectures on companies for continuing legal education seminars on behalf of Professional Education Systems, Inc.
Chip received his B.S. in Accounting with honors from Northern Arizona University in 1979. He obtained his law degree with honors from Mississippi College School of Law in 1985 where he was an Associate Editor of the Mississippi College Law Review.
Mitch McGrane, Vice President, was previously an analyst for Jefferson Capital Partners, L.P., a New Orleans-based venture capital fund specializing in providing mezzanine financing for middle market companies. During his time with Jefferson (2005 to 2006) he evaluated and participated in numerous investments in a wide range of industries. From 2001 to 2004, Mitch was a senior associate at J Folz & Associates, LLC, a Healthcare management-consulting firm based out of Memphis, TN. His career began at BDO Seidman, LP (1999 to 2001) where he was an associate in the Healthcare Business Advisory Services Group. He is a Registered Representative with FINRA.
Mitch graduated from Loyola University New Orleans in 1999, earning a B.B.A. with a double major in Finance and Marketing. He earned his M.B.A. in Finance and Management from the A.B. Freeman School of Business at Tulane University in 2006.
Richie Gray, Associate, was previously an associate for Société Générale Corporate Investment Bank , in New York. During his time with SocGen, he was a proprietary trader on the fixed income derivates desk and, prior to that, a trading assistant for the Derivatives and Financial Products Group which included credit default swaps, corporate and municipal bonds and interest rate derivatives. From 2005 to 2007, he worked as an analyst on the trading desk of Opteum, Inc, a mortgage REIT listed on the NYSE. His career began as an engineer and project manager with Procter & Gamble in Maine and New Orleans from 2002 to 2005.
Richie graduated from Tulane University in 2002, earning a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. He earned his M.B.A. in Finance and International Business from the A.B. Freeman School of Business at Tulane University in 2012. He is a Level III CFA candidate.
